Clem Ashby

Furniture maker & joiner — bench-made in elm, oak and ash

Single-maker workshop building tables, casegoods and fitted work from solid hardwood. Every piece is drawn to the room it will live in, cut by hand where hand-cutting is better, and finished in hardwax oil so it can be repaired rather than replaced.

Workshop
Old mill quarter, bench no. 3
Area
Commissions and fitted work across the county
Method
Time-served joinery · hand-cut joints · solid timber only
Lead time
Eight to fourteen weeks from drawing to delivery

What the bench takes on

  • Commission pieces

Dining tables, sideboards, desks and seating, drawn with you before a single board is cut.

  • Restoration & repair

Sympathetic work on older elm, oak and ash furniture: re-gluing, patching, loose joints, surface renewal.

  • Fitted joinery

Alcove shelving, window seats and built-in storage measured to the room rather than to a catalogue size.

  • Small editions

Short runs of stools, boards and stands cut from one board, numbered and signed underneath.

Enquiries

Tell the bench what you have in mind

A rough idea is enough to start — room, rough size, timber you like, and when you would want it. Enquiries are read at the end of each working day.

  1. A short conversation about the piece, the room and a realistic budget band.
  2. Drawings and a timber selection, agreed and costed before any cutting begins.
  3. Bench time, then delivery and fitting, with aftercare notes for the finish.

No obligation — a first conversation costs nothing.
